The history of Super Props Rentals goes back many years in Vancouver, albeit with different names and owners. Back in the
early 90's, Spelling Television started up in the Vancouver area, and with it a lockup of various set decorations and props
which it used for it's local productions. The next logical step was to rent some of items to other local productions and a
prop shop was born, sort of anyway. A couple of local entrepreneurs purchased the lockup from Spelling and formed Northwest
Film Rentals, which was then purchased by another entrepreneur and the moves began.
Northwest Films Rentals, at that time, was one of a small few local prop shops that had a little bit of everything. As time
progressed it began to be known for medical equipment, restaurant/diner furniture and smalls, along with a still large inventory
of household furniture and smalls.
In early 2003, the assets of Northwest Film Rentals were purchased by it's current owner and former manager of Northwest Film
Rentals, Glenn Kury. Super Props Rentals was born.
Why the name Super Props ? Well, there were still a lot of items that had the signature "SP", from the Spelling days, written on
them with black sharpie so we wanted to pick a name that used those letters. It was a toss up between Standard Props and Super
Props and we just thought the latter was easier to say.
Glenn felt there was a need to further the specialization and, over the span of the next decade, built up the largest medical
equipment inventory in Western Canada, if not all of Canada. Currently at almost 15,000 square feet and 90% focused on medical
related sets, whether it be a small doctor's office or a full hospital.
We are constantly on the lookout, in various auctions and from productions, for new equipment to purchase. Glenn feels that
being progressive with purchases and charging fair prices will allow Super Props Rentals to be around for a long time to come.
